Trelawney Stud was founded by Seaton Otway in 1930 and is NZ’s oldest commercially operated thoroughbred stud farm. A record seven Melbourne Cup winners have been bred or reared on the farm. In the early 1990’s the farm was taken over by the Taylor family and now encompasses over 460 acres of highly fertile land.
The seven Melbourne Cup winners that have been bred or reared at Trelawney Stud are; Hi Jinx: Galilee; Silver Knight: Polo Prince; Foxami: Hiraji and MacDougal: They have been honored by a bronze sculpture erected on the immaculate grounds. The property is used for breeding and rearing high class thoroughbreds. There are no resident stallions.
Your tour will be personally tailored to your specific requirements and can be to one or all of the studs and can also take in training establishments including the Cambridge Training Track, the largest training centre in New Zealand, catering for approximately 1000 horses each morning.
